
Throughout his glorious career, Mr Banerjee received numerous and accolades. By his representation in the Indian national team, as and coach, he received many awards, including the Asian Games Gold Medal in the 1962 Asian Games, the Merdeka Tournament Silver Medal in 1959 and in 1964, and the Bharat Nirman Awards for Lifetime Achievement in 2011. He was awarded the Arjuna Award, one of the highest for national accomplishment in the field of sports, in 1961, and the Padma Shri, among the highest national civilian, in 1990. He also received international accolades the likes of the FIFA Oder of Merit (Centennial), which is the highest by FIFA, in 2004, and the Player of the Millennium by FIFA in 2005. He was also presented with the of the Indian Footballer of by IFFHS. He is, till date, the only Asian footballer to have been awarded the International Fair Play award by the Olympic Committee.
